1930's Sequined Top

I acquired this beautiful top from my great grammy, who said belonged to her sister. And how gorgeous it is! I adore the scalloped hem and the beaded trim that falls from it. I really wish I could have met my great aunt. I started collecting hats when I was given a small box of hats that belonged to her. Boy, did she have a lovely sense of fashion. :)

I love mail.

Something very exciting came in the mail this past week!

Looks like something took a nibble at the corner. :)
I received the first edition of I Capture the Castle (1948)! There are quite a few out there, more than I expected, before I found one that was a decent price. It's in lovely condition with that familiar good ol' book smell. I'm reading it for the second time. I love it's blue tinted pages and its crack! I hear every time I open the book. I know I've mentioned this book a couple times before, but I can't help it. It's just too good.

Current Obssesion: Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis

Yup. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. My mom introduced me to them last month. She said she had grown up with their movies. I'm not sure I've had an obsession like this since my dad introduced me to The Monkees. I've watched as much of The Colgate Comedy Hour as much as I could. (They starred in The Colgate Comedy Hour, a live variety television show, from 1950-1955.) My oldest brother loves it as well. Him being eight, it's perfectly hilarious. I get a kick when Jerry starts ad-libbing his way through skits and Dean and him both try to hide their laughter. I laugh just thinking about it. Most people know Dean as the Italian crooner, but boy, when Jerry and him are together they can make a whole room roar.

One of my favorite skits is when Dean Martin is a photographer and Jerry Lewis is a window washer. It has some of the funniest ad-libbing I've come across on the show. You have to really listen to what they're saying in between their lines. Here is part one of two:

After The Colgate Comedy Hour they both went on to do their own movies. My favorite Jerry Lewis movie I've seen so far is Cinderfella. Seriously cute ending.

Silly Faces, Arsenic & Old Lace

I haven't read a blog since I don't know when! Sure, I read a post here and there, but since I started working I find the rest of my free time watching movies on netflix or checking up on facebook. Productive, I know. (Seriously though, can you not admit, if you have either, that they can be addicting?) Although, I tell my mom I'm not addicted when she accuses me of such. (I'm not mom, I swear! ;)

Anyway...I am hosting a Halloween party with my friends Sunday night. We're going to watch Arsenic & Old Lace! I'm so glad I have friends who appreciate black and white films like I do. If you haven't seen it, it's a definite must-see for Cary Grant fans. His facial expressions are hilarious. Throughout the film he is shocked, surprised and dumbfounded. I crack up every time I see faces like these:
I thoroughly enjoyed finding these pictures, lol. Now go watch it! :)

p.s. Happy Halloween!

Oh, hey!

I'm aliveee! And currently sitting in my serene, green room next to a sunlit window. Ahh, peace.

Many things have happened since I last wrote. Too many to write them all here, but highlights include: tap dance (!), WICKED The Musical in Boston, my new job (secretary/assistant in my dad's office), Starbucks frappuccinos, sewing, and many, many Jimmy Stewart movies. (Yes, I am determined to watch all of them.)
Well, my friends..I must attend kitchen duties. Therefore I leave you with this:

“Friend, you are a divine mingle-mangle of guts and stardust. So hang in there!
If doors opened for me, they can open for anyone.”

Crayola Fun

Give crayons.  Adults are disturbingly impoverished of these magical dream sticks.  ~Dr SunWolf
Well, we used markers, but same idea.

Hullo' Watson!

Meet Watson, my new camera! I received this little photographic apparatus for being a good helper around the house. I found it on my nightstand waiting for me. :) It's a Kodak Junior Six-20 in pristine condition. Now if I could just find some film for it...

Well, east coast girls are hip..

As promised, I brought a {working!} camera. On Thursday, we arrived at the lake just after someone had vomited in it. (don't worry, I didn't capture any photos of that) So it was at least 45 minutes before we could actually swim. It was extraordinarily hot with the sun beating down. I dug my toes in the cool sand and read. I brought with me I Capture the Castle - one of the loveliest books. Once I'm done I hope to watch the movie. I love looking at the movie stills, costumes and scenery...anyway, I digress. Onto the pictures...
This was the train station in Wolfeborough, I think only trolleys go through it now.
We stopped at Bailey's Bubble for some ice cream. They also have some of the best hot fudge around!
I got German chocolate cake ice cream with gummy bears. I guess some people might think gummy bears and chocolate is gross. I think it's one of the best combinations ever. Or at least better than the new chocolate & bacon idea. I have yet to try it, but still...who's idea was that?
My brother's ice cream mustache...made me think of Charlie Chaplin. :)
Erin has fabulous style. ;) Check out her purse!

Mini Updates

Hello lovely readers/passer by's!

Sooo, summer has finally caught up to me and I keep forgetting to take pictures. I know..I'm such a bad blogger. When I do remember to bring a camera anywhere I soon find the batteries are dead. Therefore, no pictures. I had to resort to my cell phone camera the other day - that will not last long.

Anyway, I've been berry picking, at the beach, sewing, and trampoline jumping. I'll have to show you the fifties style dress I finally finished! I'm very excited to wear it. I have been itching to sew more summer dresses. So, I'll probably start another one soon.

Today, I am going to the lake with my mom and brothers. We're going to meet a friend who's up there and have a picnic and swim. I promise to bring a working camera! In the meantime I'll show you some pictures I took with a fish eye lens - oh, how I do love fish eye lenses! I feel it makes everything pretty and want to take a picture of everything. It was borrowed from a friend who had a old Yashica slr camera.

My summer reading list!

Homeschool Banquet

I almost forgot about these! silly me. ;)

Some family friends I know hosted a homeschool banquet in May. It was a blast! I had a lot of fun preparing what I was going to wear. I wore a vintage fifties gown and red velvet boots. (pure love!) The dress was a little tight on the shoulders, but I managed. I added lace to the shoulders and ribbon around the waist.
